Does MSDE install SQL Enterprise Manager? I have installed MSDE on two computers, one of the has the SQL Enterprise Manager snap-in insalled and the other doesn't. I didn't know if the computer without it didn't install properly, or if I installed EM fr
om some other source on the computer that has it.
No, MSDE does not come with SEM. You can obtain the client tools with
the Developer Edition ($49/US) and install just the client tools on
your MSDE box. The computer that has it already installed got the
client tools from some other source.

|||Thanks Mary. I had installed and uninstalled MS SQL Server 2000 for Office on the computer that has SEM on it. I thought that may have been where it came from but wasn't sure...now I know.
|||As long as it isn't for production work. The Dev Edition can only be used
for development work.

what do you mean by "but only the laptop will show the sever running" ?
is the MSDE instance service not running or just not showing in the SQL
Server Service Manager?
