MSDE 2000: Authentication failed despite BLANKSAPWD

Hi!
We're having troubles on a Windows 2003 Server. MSDE 1.0 does not
install (even though we already have this setup at other customers).
So I downloaded MSDE 2000. Unfortunately, somebody else just executed the
installation procedure without setup-parameters. I wanted to have an empty
password (I know, I know. But it is a closed system) and I need SQL
security mode and network protocols.
Thus I uninstalled MSDE 2000 again and launched setup.exe this way:
setup DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=0 SECURITYMODE=SQL BLANKSAPWD=1
The installation went fine and I did *no* receive the error about the
trusted connections. However, I received "Authentication for user sa
failed" when simply doing this
osql -Usa -P -dmaster
Any clues?

The only thing that I can tell you is that the MSDE instance accepts the
administrator password as sa password...So the problem is solved but not
the circumstances that produced this setup.

MSDE 2000 installation on Windows 98 SE

Hi,
I have Installed MSDE 2000 on Windows 98 SE box After REBOOT MSDE
service is running.
I am not able to connect to the MSDE in WIndows Authentication mode
while using Login ( sa ) / password the connectivity is done.
My GUI uses the MSDE connection in "Windows Authentication Mode" which
is working fine with the 2K/XP but not with 98SE/ME.
The MSDE Readme.txt says that on 98 / ME the default Connectivity mode
is "Windows Authentication" BUT its not working in that way.
I have tried SECURITYMODE=SQL as command line to setup.exe as well but
results are same.
Any clue to run it in WMA Mode on Win98SE/ME ?
thanks
kapil
Hi Kaps,
Win98 doesn't provide the infrastructure that MSDE needs to use Windows
Authentication. You will need to use SQL Server authentication and specify
an password for sa (SAPWD) while installing it.

MSDE - Problems connecting using SQL Authentication

I'm trying to use the import/export part of MSDE. When I choose to connect to the server via Windows NT Authentication, everything works fine, assuming I have a connection to the server open (ie VPN connection).

When I chooose SQL Server Authentication, I get the following error:

Client unable to establish connection [CBNMPNTW] ConnectionOpen(CreateFile()).

I need to be able to connect using sql server authentication. Can anyone help me?

Thanks,
StephanieRE:

A1 Possibly, more information would be helpful and is probably quite necessary. You may well have more than one issue, i.e.(Are you using DSNs, do you have a local DSN(s) configured to use TCP/IP instead of Named Pipes, are you able to tracert / ping your MSDE server with and / or without Windows NT Authentication via your VPN, is your VPN Win NT authentication based, etc., etc.,?).

MSDE

Dear all,
I am trying to connect to MSDE on a remote machine, on my local network
using enterprise manager using SQL authentication, the passwords are
correct as I can log in locally, however on trying to register the
remote SQL MSDE i get the following error message 'SQL Server does not
exist or access denied ConnectionOpen(Connect())'
Help, does anyone know any solutions.
Regards
Stuart

Don't just participate in USENET...get rewarded for it!You probably have no network protocols enabled on the remote computer.
Try using SVRNETCN.exe on the remote computer to enable network protocols
(TCP/IP, named pipes). SVRNETCN.exe is located in folder 'C:\Program
Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn'.
