MSDE 2000 Installation

I am new to MSDE. Not MS-SQL server was installed in this desktop before. I have downloaded MSDERelA and installed it using the command line prompt. I can not the see the SQLServer programs under Start/Programs menu. What am I doing wrong? Should I be
installing a different program instead of MSDE2000RelA? Please help. Thank you.
MSDE doesn't have a graphical user interface and it doesn't create any menu
items in the Start/Programs menu. You can check if MSDE is installed by
looking in Control Panel|Add/Remove Programs.

I checked as you suggested and saw that MSDE is installed. Where would I find the free version of graphical user interface that will work with MSDE? Do I need to remove MSDE to install the GUI?

|||Thanks Jacco,
I installed the SQL Server Web Data Administrator. The installation never asked for my userid and password. When try to login what userid/pw should I be using?. I tried my windows login and pw and it did not work. Then i tried sa as userid and AStrong
SAPwd as password, did not work it either. I tried both windows authenticate mode and sql mode. The server is (local).

MSDE -> Express Upgrade problem.

Hello!

I'm trying to upgrade old MSDE instances to SQL Server 2005 Express SP1.

The following command fails:
SQLEXPR.EXE /qb UPGRADE=SQL_Engine INSTANCENAME=XXX ADDLOCAL=Client_Components,Connectivity

because the domain\x user cannot login. We have disabled Windows authentication. Is there a way to supply the SA login instead of a domain user?

Problem no #2:
After upgrading with Windows Authentication turned on, current SQL users cannot login (sa). Is Mixed authentication mode turned off during upgrade? Or what else could be the problem?

Our application is distributed around Europe. We have no control over our customers security settings/logins.
Also, the database contains sensitive data. Giving Windows Administrators access to the database is out of the question.

Kind regards

A

Check in the template.ini file that's in the high-level directory of the install media; the options are explained pretty well in there but in brief you can specify accounts, passwords, and security mode.

MSDE - Installation Problems

I am attempting to install MSDE 2000A on a new PC using
command prompt.
My command prompt line is as follows:
C:\MSDERelA:\ setup SAPWD = "test" INSTANCENAME = "DBASE1"
When I hit enter, a "Windows Installer" window appears.
I have installed entreprise manager on the PC and tried
registering DBASE1 but I am told the Server does not exist
or access denied.
Please help!
Wes
I found that when I try and register it it fails, then I go into the
properties and simply click OK again and it starts and connects to the
instance, go figure!

msdb log backup failed

Hello guys,
I am sorry if I insist but I am still having this error about msdb log
file failed.
BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP LOG [msdb] TO [systemLo
g]
WITH NOINIT , NOUNLOAD , NAME = N'msdb backup', NOSKIP , STATS =
10, NOFORMAT
I do not understand why.
Could someone help me on solve this problem.
InaHi,
Can you verify the recovery model of MSDB database by executing below
command:-
select databasepropertyex('msdb','recovery')
If the result return SIMPLE then you can not perform a transaction log
backup. Incase if you need to do a log backup then change the recovery
model to FULL using below command
ALTER DATABASE MSDB SET RECOVERY FULL
After to regroup the backup chain; perform a FULL MSDB backup and then then
start the log backup.,
Thanks
Hari
