MSDE and DDL error

I have recently set up MSDE through a SharePoint services
install. I added a database, but when I go to add a table
through Visual Studio or osql I get the error "ADO error:
DDL statement is not allowed." I have tried to modify the
DDL settings in my database through >> exec sp_dboption
mydatabase, "ddl in tran", true <<, but "ddl in tran" is
not a recognized option any longer. Anyone know a
workaround on this? THANKS>Check your MDAC version

MSDE 2000 and SQL 2005 Express on one machine

Is it possible to have these two services on one machine? I notice that my
server requires MSDE 2000 SP3a and don't know it there will be a conflict if
I will install it (or is it possible to have these on the same machine) or I
will just install the 2005 version since it was the replacement of MSDE.
Hoping for your response.

the default installs. 2005 Express attempts to upgrade MSDE

MSDE 2000 and Multiple Applications

I built a server that will have three applications that require MSDE 2000. We
do not have a SQL server. The apps are SharePoint Services, NAI's ePO and
Veritas' Backup Exec. Can all three applications use one copy of MSDE? This
is a small shop, so there won't be incredible load on the server. Obviously,
I'm not a DBA :-)

Hi,
Is it possible to use SQL Analysis Services with MSDE 2000? I've
MSDE 2000 installed in mt m/c. When i try to install sql2kasp3.exe
after unpacking the exe, i'm getting the error "an error occurred
during the move data process:-145".

MSDE doesn't come with Analysis Services. You need SQL Server Standard,
Enterprise, Evaluation or Developer Edition for Analysis Services

MSDE & WMSDE

Hi all,
i'm very new on MSSQL, recently i need to setup Windows
SharePoint Services and came across about the MSDE.
Appreciate if someone can answer my question below.
1) What is the different between MSDE & WMSDE ?
2) Possible description on the following executable
files? Or website.
bcp.exe, cnfgsvr.exe, dcomscm.exe, osql.exe,
sqlmaint.exe, sqlmangr.exe, scm.exe, sqladhlp.exe, and
svrnetcn.exe
3) What is storage limit? MSDE have limitation on 2Gb of
storage limit, how about WMSDE?1) What is the different between MSDE & WMSDE ?
WMSDE is a special MSDE on steroids without the 5 user limit and
without the 2GB limit
but you can't search in sharepoint sites
Re 2gb limit:
for most installations you shouldn't wory about this ceiling
you should worry about emphasizing to users that Sharepoint sites are
not for dumping anything like they did with their network shares
for others i recommend msd2d.com
it is a great place for the beautiful Sharepoint technlogies

msdb or file system

When I log into Integrated Services on my SQL server, I see [Stored Package] -- File System and MSDB.

When I deploy/import my SSIS packages which should it go under? Is there a difference and if so what the difference?

Since that question is unanswered, here's the deal.

Where you ultimately choose to store your packages, is up to you. They each do the same thing, but with some differences.

With File System storage, you can simply map a network drive to the server and just copy your packages over to the server. With SQL Server, you need to import into MSDB.

Some like to use File System, but to me, the permissions are harder to work with. Because SSIS does not save passwords, you'll have to use a configuration file to specify passwords for your connection managers. Either that, or you'll have to use EncryptSensitiveWithPassword and then specify a decryption password with the command line.

SQL Server has the same problems unless you tell it to use "SQL Server Roles and Storage" when importing. This is what I choose to use. Access is controlled via SQL Server roles/security.

thanks, I'm not a big fan of using the file system for much and due to the permissions within the tool then going through the act of congress to get permissions setup on a network drive to use, isn't worth the hassle.

It would take me longer to get that setup (just from the network side) then it would for me to create a package, test it, import it and roll it out to production and create 10 more.

So I think I'll go the MSDB route.

So far I'm not finding a clear cut answer, I guess it really depends on the person deploying the packages.

its kind of like, what language is better C# or VB.NET? no clear answer, its developer preference.
