MSDE and DDL error

I have recently set up MSDE through a SharePoint services
install. I added a database, but when I go to add a table
through Visual Studio or osql I get the error "ADO error:
DDL statement is not allowed." I have tried to modify the
DDL settings in my database through >> exec sp_dboption
mydatabase, "ddl in tran", true <<, but "ddl in tran" is
not a recognized option any longer. Anyone know a
workaround on this? THANKS>Check your MDAC version

MSDE 2K Is there a compatibility issue with Backupexe or Sharepoint

We have installed an application that usese MSDE as the database, no error m
essage during install process. When application is opened and attempts to c
onnect with the database we get the following message:
sql code = -1
sql db code = 10004
"SQL Error: unable to connect: SQL server is unavailable or does not
exist. unable to connect: sql server does not exist or network access
denied"
We can get to the database and view contents using ODBC and OSQL. The syste
m is Windows Server 2003 Small Business Server, and we are using MSDE releas
e A. Other software on the system that might create a problem (hints I've s
een on other forums) are Ba
ckupexe and Sharepoint.
We have checked all issues of access rights and security issues we can think
of but apparently have overlooked something. This is a pretty high priorit
y issue for us so if anyone can help we would certainly appreciate it!I know this may not help much, but if you have no problem connecting from
OSQL and other application, you might want to check with teh vendor of the
application and find out how the connection to SQL Server is made from the
application. This might help lead to you why the error is occurring.

I built a server that will have three applications that require MSDE 2000. We
do not have a SQL server. The apps are SharePoint Services, NAI's ePO and
Veritas' Backup Exec. Can all three applications use one copy of MSDE? This
is a small shop, so there won't be incredible load on the server. Obviously,
I'm not a DBA :-)

MSDE & WMSDE

Hi all,
i'm very new on MSSQL, recently i need to setup Windows
SharePoint Services and came across about the MSDE.
Appreciate if someone can answer my question below.
1) What is the different between MSDE & WMSDE ?
2) Possible description on the following executable
files? Or website.
bcp.exe, cnfgsvr.exe, dcomscm.exe, osql.exe,
sqlmaint.exe, sqlmangr.exe, scm.exe, sqladhlp.exe, and
svrnetcn.exe
3) What is storage limit? MSDE have limitation on 2Gb of
storage limit, how about WMSDE?1) What is the different between MSDE & WMSDE ?
WMSDE is a special MSDE on steroids without the 5 user limit and
without the 2GB limit
but you can't search in sharepoint sites
Re 2gb limit:
for most installations you shouldn't wory about this ceiling
you should worry about emphasizing to users that Sharepoint sites are
not for dumping anything like they did with their network shares
for others i recommend msd2d.com
it is a great place for the beautiful Sharepoint technlogies
